Hiking & Outdoors
The Carmel Mountain Preserve is a series of hiking trails in the bluffs overlooking Carmel Valley. The Preserve is a popular trail for hiking, trail running, and walking. Recommendation: Best experienced in the early mornings and early evenings. Easy access point next to the Ocean Air Recreational Center (west side).
Torrey Pines State Reserve is a 2,000 acres of coastal state park located along the coast near North Torrey Pines Rd. The State Reserve features a series of hiking trails with breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. Recommendation: Best experienced in the early mornings and early evenings. Weekends can be crowded. Parking along the beachfront at Torrey Pines State Beach. No bicycles/vehicles or pets.

Torrey Pines State Park Reserve Extension
The Torrey Pines State Reserve Extension Trail is a series of trails located to the north of Penasquitos Lagoon and can be entered from Del Mar Scenic Parkway (via Carmel Valley Rd.) or from Mar Scenic Dr. or Mira Montana Dr. (via Del Mar Heights Rd.). The trail is hidden gem to escape the crowds. Recommendation: Best experienced in the early mornings and early evenings. No bicycles/vehicles or pets.

The State Route 56 Bike Path provides a traffic-separated connection between inland and coastal San Diego County. The 9.1 mile point-to-point route gradually inclines (230 ft) traveling inland and parallels State Route 56 closely for much of the way. The trail is frequented by bikers, inline skaters, hikers/walkers. Recommendation: Best experienced in the early mornings and early evenings. Parking near Clews Ranch Rd. and Carmel Country Rd.
